Montreal soccer fans have had their worst fears confirmed, as rookie phenom striker Cameron Porter has been ruled out of play for the next nine to 12 months with a torn anterior cruciate ligament to his left knee.

The diagnosis came after Porter, the hero of the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Pachuca, met doctors in Montreal Tuesday afternoon.

The 21-year-old from Ohio via Princeton suffered the injury in the 18th minute of the match last Saturday against the New England Revolution, landing awkwardly after a jump.

Montreal Impact head coach Frank Klopas said that he anticipated the bad news.

This is a second substantial loss for the Impact in the last two weeks after Justin Mapp, injured his left elbow in the opening match on 7 March in Washington. Mapp will be on the shelf for four months.
