An 18-year-old hockey player who was knocked unconscious during a game this past Sunday is talking about his injury.

Mikael Tam says the past week has been the most difficult of his life.

He doesn't remember his last shift on the ice, as his Quebec Remparts defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in overtime.

Nor does he recall the hit from 19-year-old Patrice Cormier that knocked him out, and forced him to be carried off the ice on a stretcher.

Tam only remembers coming to in the emergency ward of a hospital, and being afraid that he would never play hockey again.

"As I was regaining consciousness I felt an incredible pain," said Tam. "I remember wondering if I will ever walk again."

Today Tam feels lucky to walk and talk.

"I have suffered a traumatic brain injury. I have lost a few teeth and I feel very tired," said Tam.

Cormier was suspended indefinitely by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League after Sunday's elbow to Tam's head.

He has made just one statement, "We clearly see it was an elbow shot, but it was just a reflex."

The Remparts will not comment on the hit, or on Cormier, and they would not allow Tam to talk about it either.

But team president Claude Rousseau had one comment to make about respect for the rules of the game.

"The game is respecting all rules," said Rousseau. "They need to be applied in any sport and that's exactly how we teach and coach our teenagers and also our players."

The League will decide on Monday what sanctions Cormier will face.

Meanwhile the Surete du Quebec are investigating whether there are grounds for criminal charges against Cormier.
