A 37-year-old man is facing charges after a high-speed police chase on the South Shore.

The incident began just after midnight Friday on Route 132 in St. Lambert when police tried to pull over the driver.

Instead he fled east on the highway, and was only stopped when police laid a spike belt across the road.

The belt popped the front tires of the vehicle, and the car crashed near the intersection of Highway 30 in Candiac.

The suspect was not injured and is due in court Friday to face charges of impaired driving, causing a police chase, and driving without a license.
