A three-alarm fire tore through a grocery store in Park Extension Friday morning, which also affected a mosque on the second floor.

Other residences in the building on Jean-Talon Street had to be evacuated, but no one was injured.

The owner of BK Marché said employees on the early shift heard an explosion then saw smoke billowing through the building.

Firefighters said the fire began in the basement.

About 90 firefighters were on site at the corner of Jean Talon St. and Bloomfield Ave. just after 6 a.m.

Several people in the area gathered near the scene to show support to the owner.

Over 50 employees work at the grocery store.

Jean Talon St. was closed to traffic between L’Acadie Blvd. and Querbes Ave. in the morning.

The fire department are still investigating the cause.
