Teachers with the FAE are staging roving demonstrations on Friday.
The 34,000 teachers belonging to the Federation Autonome des enseignants held multiple protests on Wednesday and Thursday, and are continuing to do so Friday.
Early in the morning about 100 teachers rallied outside the Mount Royal Club in Montreal, where Treasury Board president Martin Coiteux was scheduled to hold a breakfast meeting. He ended up cancelling it.
If this sounds familiar, it's because unionized public sector workers did the same thing on Nov. 6, again when Coiteux was scheduled to have a breakfast meeting with the Chamber of Commerce.
Around 8 a.m. the protesters reunited outside the LaSalle offices of Transport Ministry Robert Poeti, while some went to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts where Poeti was schedule to give a speech.
The union says it will hold more protests throughout the day in undisclosed locations.
Earlier this week the Montreal police force broke up a protest camp the FAE had set up near government offices on Fullum St. The Ministry of Transportation, which owned the land where tents were set up, had sought and received an injunction banning the overnight protest.
The FAE represents teachers at eight school boards in and around Montreal.
Although never formally part of the Common Front' of other public sector workers, they were making very similar demands until a month ago when they broke off contract negotiations. They insist they are willing to negotiate a contract.
Several other unions in Quebec have reached agreements in principle on several aspects of their work contracts, although salaries continue to be disputed.
