Police in South Shore La Prairie are investigating a violent fire that turned a condominium complex into a pile of ashes in mere minutes very early Saturday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene on St-Henri St. at about 4 a.m. and arrived to find an inferno burning before their eyes.
The 16-unit complex was under construction so no one was there at the time the fire broke out, but the flames were so hot that firefighters still evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution.
There was nothing left of the structure within 20 minutes of the firefighters arriving on the scene, and the fire was so intense that parts of nearby cars actually melted.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but investigators consider the origins to be suspicious.
