Dozens of residents in Quebec's Gaspé have been evacuated from their homes because of flooding as rain continues to fall in the region.

By 8 p.m. Tuesday, 100 mm had already fallen in the Gaspé region. Environment Canada is expecting up to 180 mm by Wednesday.

Ten people have been evacuated from Cascapédia-Saint-Jules after the Grande Cascapédia River overflowed its banks.

Five people were evacuated from their homes in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts as a preventative measure.

In addition to the rain, easterly winds topping 90 km/h have been recorded in some areas, and wind of 111 km/h was recorded in Sainte-Madeleine-de-la-Rivière-Madeleine.

Snow and strong winds also led to poor visibility in northern Quebec on Tuesday.

Weather warnings were also issued in western parts of the province, including Abitibi, Matagami et Waskaganish.

Extreme rainfall also caused flash floods in New Brunswick, where up to 175 mm of rain was reported. Powerful winds rocked Nova Scotia, resulting in widespread power outages and downed trees and wires. Several buildings were damaged in both Atlantic provinces.
