After years of uncertainty, Montreal's new Shriners Hospital is one step closer to becoming a reality.
CTV News has learned of a status report on the project at the Shriners' annual convention Monday in Toronto.
A spokesperson for the Shriners confirms that a press conference is scheduled for Thursday in Montreal, during which details of the project are expected to be revealed.
"It's still all pretty much top secret. We don't have a lot of details, but it is a first indication that the project is going ahead as planned," said CTV Montreal reporter Annie DeMelt.
After delays and uncertainty, the new Shriners Hospital is expected to be built next to the MUHC English superhospital at the Glen Yards, near the Vendome metro station in NDG.
Last year, a top American official with the Shriners said all new projects would be put on hold due to a lack of funds.
Back in 2005, the Shriners threatened to move the hospital from Montreal to Ontario.
