Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash in La Plaine, north of Laval.

About 3 a.m. Monday the driver of the car lost control while driving on Cure-Barrette, rolling his vehicle several times before it snapped a hydro pole in two and finally came to a stop on its roof.

The car caught fire, and was severely damaged before firefighters could extinguish the flames.

The driver died of his injuries, and so far police have not said if there were any other people in the car.

Construction Holiday deaths down

Monday's crash means that 20 people have died on territory patrolled by the Surete du Quebec during the province's annual construction holiday.

Five of those deaths happened this past weekend.

A 20-year-old driver perished in Morin Heights when he crashed into a tree and was ejected from the vehicle.

In another deadly incident, a 26-year-old motorcyclist crashed when he tried to pass a car while driving on Highway 20 in Baie d'Urfe.

In all this year's construction holiday had fewer deaths than expected.

Last year 29 people died on Quebec's highways during the two-week break.
