MONTREAL - As former league champions, the expectations are always there.

But after a slow start to the season, the Dawson Blues have found their stride. A recent trip to Detroit helped the team come together.

"We grew as a team," Gabrielle Davidson, a forward, told CTV Montreal. "We went from being one of the most underestimated teams to one of the best. I think that really sums it up."

Now the team is gearing up for another run.

Meanwhile, women's hockey as a whole has come a long way.

Thirteen years after its inception, Dawson is now one of eight teams in the province's collegiate women's AA league. Next year, that number will be 10.

Dawson women's hockey also serves as a gateway to the university ranks, opening the door to schools like McGill and Concordia, as well as schools south of the border.
