MONTREAL—A cyclist succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning, soon after he was struck in Villeray by a heavy truck at the start of the morning rush-hour.

According to Montreal police spokesman Yannick Ouimette, the 33-year-old man was crossing Christophe-Colomb Ave. at Mistral St. when he was clipped by a truck. The collision took place around 6:50 a.m.

The cyclist died soon after he was admitted to a local hospital.

The driver of the truck, who had not seen the bicycle, suffered from shock after the collision. Both the truck and the cyclist had a green light at the time of the accident.

To help collision investigators at the scene of the accident, Christophe-Colomb Ave. was closed between Cremazie St. and Jean-Talon St.

The cyclist was the second person to die on Montreal’s roads within 12 hours. Late Monday night, a 27-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed in the Plateau-Mont-Royal.
