City council in Chambly has voted in favour of a motion to save the Maison Boileau.

The residence is 200-years-old, and in bad shape. It was bought eight years ago by a couple who couldn't afford to fix it.

Last month, city council voted to demolish the home, but there was strong opposition, including from the province.

The town is planning to try and buy the house, repair it and turn it into a tourist site.
