A 3-year-old boy has died after being found unconscious in a residential pool in Brossard Friday afternoon.

Longueuil police say the 911 call came in around 2:45 p.m., after the boy’s family discovered him in the pool on Tardif St.

His father tried to use CPR to resuscitate the child until police and emergency personnel arrived.

Bruce Dyotte, spokesman for CETAM, the organization that represents ambulance technicians in the Monteregie, said preliminary information indicates the boy spent two to three minutes under water.

Ambulance workers used a defibrillator on the child, but he didn’t have a pulse and wasn’t breathing when he arrived at Charles Le Moyne Hospital.

His death was declared about three hours later.

The boy is the 27th drowning victim of the year in Quebec, but is the first child victim.

Last year at this time, 41 people had lost their lives in drowning accidents.
