The employees of the downtown Bonaventure Hotel have been locked out until further notice.

According to the CSN, the union representing the workers, the decision came down Sunday night following a 36-hour strike by employees, which began at 9 a.m. Saturday.

There are about 200 union workers affected.

At least eight agreements in principle have been reached since the start of coordinated bargaining in Quebec’s hospitality sector: five hotels in Montreal, one in Sherbrooke and two in Quebec City.

Earlier this month, hotel workers in Montreal and Quebec City staged a one-day strike to send a message to their employers they are dissatisfied with the pace of contract talks.

Hotel workers have been without a contract since the end of June. some of the main sticking points include higher salaries, as well as more holiday and severance pay.
