The cross-examination of Marc Bellemare continued Tuesday, with a line of questioning focused more on the former justice minister's credibility than the nomination of judges.
The lawyer representing the Government of Quebec, Suzanne Cote, became so intense in her questioning of Bellemare that she was called to order by chief justice Michel Bastarache.
Cote had repeatedly asked Bellemare why, if he had been told by Premier Jean Charest to follow the orders of particular fundraisers, it took so long for the judges they wanted nominated to be named.
The commissioner asked Cote three times the relevance of her questioning.
Charest's lawyer, Andre Ryan, followed suit in his style of questioning. Ryan, however, told the court up front his goal was to attack Bellemare's credibility.
"It's about who's credible, Jean Charest or Marc Bellemare," said CTV's John Grant. "And it's overlaid with the question of the nomination of judges."
