Clayton Rask fired a bogey-free 8-under-par 63 Thursday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Desjardins Montreal Open at Saint-Raphael Golf Club on Ile-Bizard.

James Allenby of Langley, B.C. and Tim Wood sit tied for second.

Byron Smith and amateur Marc-Etienne Bussieres of Gatineau, Que., hold down fourth spot after both shot 66.

Another nine players shot 67.

`I really don't know where this came from, to be honest,' said Rask, a 24-year-old from Otsego, Minn. `I putted awesome today.'

Rask was 2 under after his opening nine but birdied No. 11, made eagle at No. 13 and closed with three straight birdies to grab the lead.
