Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman is among the people the Buffalo Bills want to speak to about their vacant coaching job, U.S. all-sports cable network ESPN reports.

The Bills fired Dick Jauron last Tuesday, and are currently being coached on an interim basis by defensive co-ordinator Perry Fewell.

Trestman, 53, is a native of Minnesota who has served on past NFL coaching staffs for the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.

He led Montreal to the Grey Cup final in his rookie CFL season a year ago.

The Als went a league-best 15-3 this season, and host the East Division final against the B.C. Lions on Sunday.

Other NFL possibilities

Trestman has also had his name mentioned as a potential candidate to succeed Tom Cable in Oakland, the team which Trestman served as offensive co-ordinator from 2002-2003. During his time in the NFL, there were questions over his ability to lead a football team, but his two years in Montreal have put those to rest.

Much like Bills' Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy, Trestman could take the CFL route to his first NFL head coaching hire.
