A 34-year-old Loungueuil man appeared in court Monday to be arraigned on two counts of second-degree murder.

Francois Tartamella was in a wheelchair and did not enter a plea.

Emanuelle Phaneuf and her daughter, Laurie, were killed Friday morning in their Longueuil apartment building on Friday.

Tartamella arrested at the time and questioned as an important witness before being charged on Saturday.

Two other children, under the age of five, were found unharmed at the scene.

Neighbours said Phaneuf and Tartamella had recently broken up after five years together.

Laurie was her daughter from an earlier relationship.

Tartamella is scheduled to appear in court on December 9 for a preliminary hearing.
