While thousands of Quebeckers flock to Wednesday’s Fete Nationale celebrations, the majority of Anglophones won’t be part of the partying according to a new Leger poll.

Sixty-five per cent of Anglophones and 73 per cent of Allophones said they won’t be attending any festivities this year.

On the flip side, the poll also shows that Francophones won’t be drinking any Molson Canadian on July 1.

According to Jack Jedwab, Executive Vice-President for the Association for Canadian Studies, the organization that commissioned the poll, politics have played a major role in turning people away from the holidays.

“It reflects the perception across the spectrum that there is something political in the actual engagement in the festivities around Canada Day and St. Jean Baptiste day, respectively,” he said.
