Montreal police are investigating a suspicious death in Villeray.

The body of a woman in her eighties was found in an apartment on St. Gerard St. near Villeray St.

Investigators are trying to determine whether or not her death was accidental.

Police received a call at around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, after Urgence Santé had been dispatched to the home.

Upon arrival, paramedics discovered the body of 83-year-old woman, they proclaimed her to be dead on the scene.

When police arrived, they found the woman’s 59-year-old daughter in the house in a state of shock. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators intended to meet with the woman’s daughter later in the day to better understand the situation; however, police say that according to doctors, the daughter is now in critical condition.

Neither the daughter nor mother had any visible scars or injuries on their bodies.

Police erected a security perimeter around the area, analyzed the scene, and questioned neighbours and other possible witnesses in order to gather information concerning what may have happened.

“Inside the apartment there were some elements that were suspicious,” said SPVM’s Jean-Pierre Brabant. “We’re talking chairs and tables that were moved around.”

The investigation is ongoing.
