Richard Bain told the police officer who arrested him that he never intended to shoot anyone on election night 2012.

Mathieu Rochon testified in court on Thursday that after a pair of SQ officers tackled Bain and handcuffed him, he took Bain into custody.

Rochon said that he read Bain his rights and that Bain then talked about what had happened.

Bain was told at 12:40 a.m., about an hour after the shootings took place, that stage technician Denis Blanchette had died.

According to Rochon, Bain said he never meant to shoot anyone, telling him "I just wanted to shoot over their heads, but I got one."

When asked why he had done this, Bain said he was "against the [expletive]" -- meaning the newly-elected premier Pauline Marois.

Rochon said through the process of being arrested and detained Bain was helpful and coherent, mentioning that he had more weapons and gasoline cans in his car, but that the vehicle was not booby-trapped.

Bain only clammed up when he was taken to a prison cell.

When Rochon was finished testifying, cameraman Martin Bouffard took the stand.

The CBC cameraman was at Metropolis to cover the election, but went outside when he noticed the commotion.

He was the one who filmed Bain being taken into a police cruiser, video that has now become part of the evidence against Bain.

Bain is standing trial for the September 2012 murder of technician Denis Blanchette and the shooting of Dave Courage.
