New evidence reveals that the Surete du Quebec was keeping a close eye on the main suspect in the 2007 disappearance of Cedrika Provencher for months before his arrest this past summer.

On Friday, a Trois-Rivieres tribunal authorized the release of some of the evidence gathered in the case against Jonathan Bettez, who was arrested in August on charges of child pornography.

The documents show that the SQ kept close tabs on the suspect, placing a GPS tracker on his car shortly before Provencher’s remains were found last December.

Officers also obtained warrants to search Bettez’s house and office while he wasn’t there and made copies of the contents of his computers. Those copies revealed traces of child pornography, including images of young girls being sexually assaulted.

Investigators also discovered that Bettez had used software designed to erase the contents of his computers, though they were able to trace the content because of his IP address.

Bettez faces six counts of possession and distribution of child porn. He remains free on bail, though he is not permitted to use a computer, is not allowed to leave the country and cannot be in the presence of children until his trial.
