The uncle who gave the eulogy today for a fallen Canadian soldier says he hopes war will soon be a thing of the past.

More than 600 mourners crammed into a church in Les Mechins in eastern Quebec to pay their last respects to Trooper Karine Blais, while hundreds of other milled outside.

One young woman collapsed in the church and had to be carried out by soldiers.

The trooper's uncle, Mario Blais, remembered his 21-year-old niece as a loving young woman.

She died in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan last week.

Blais said after his niece's death that it was time for Ottawa to pull Canadian soldiers out of Afghanistan.

The funeral was held a day after Major Michelle Mendes was found dead in her sleeping quarters at Kandahar Airfield.

Mendes is the third female soldier to die during the Afghan mission.
