Julie Snyder is challenging Quebec’s tax law in court.

Snyder says she is unfairly being kept from accessing a tax credit offered to other independent producers in Quebec.

The law says that grants are solely for producers not linked to major networks or studios.

Snyder is married to PQ Leader Pierre Karl Peladeau, who holds a controlling stake in Quebecor, which owns the TVA network that airs many of the shows Snyder produces.

Snyder founded Productions J, a TV and live event production company behind French-language television shows such as Star Academie and La Voix.

In her challenge, Snyder says that the law is discriminatory because it's her marital status that is disqualifying her company from receiving the credit.
