MONTREAL - Aleksandra Wozniak advanced to the third round of the Rogers Cup Thursday by beating the 18th ranked Jelena Jankovic in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3 at the Rogers Cup at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal.

The match was notable for its intensity, particularly the second set which was full of intense rallies and spectacular exchanges, which were greeted with wild cheers from the crowd.

The hometown Wozniak served for the victory at 5-3, and won when Jankovic’s return floated long.

“I’ve played big games but never won here at home,” said Wozniak following the victory. “It couldn’t feel better.”

It’s the first time Wozniak has made the third round of the tournament.
