If you see people running out of buildings this evening, don't be alarmed. It's a city-wide drill to evacuate buildings in case of emergency.

Montreal's fire department is organizing the "Big Evacuation" for Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.

Officials say this is an opportunity to have the city's residents practice fire drills, check their smoke detectors, and have a plan in case of a fire at home.

Firefighters will supervise evacuation drills at specific locations in eight boroughs, and the residents of the areas taking part in the drill have already been advised.

People who live in other parts of the city are encouraged to run through drills on their own, with their families.
