The Beauce, south of Quebec and snuggled up against northern Maine, is a riding that's been held by Conservative MP Maxime Bernier since 2006, when he wrested it from the hands of three-term Liberal Claude Drouin.

In a way, Bernier's role as MP for the region continues the family business since his father Gilles represented residents from 1984 until 1997, first as a member of the Progressive Conservatives and then as an Independent.

Voters admit as much, with many saying they shrugged off the scandals that Bernier has been involved in by saying "From father to son, that's why I vote for him."

Many pundits thought the 2008 scandal involving Bernier leaving NATO briefing papers at his girlfriend's house would spell the end of his political career, especially when her previous relationships with Hells Angels members were revealed, but he easily won the riding with 24,000 votes more than his closest rival.

Now Bernier is relying on his name more than ever to maintain his hold on the riding. For the current campaign he is not even putting up posters, saying his personal recognition is all he needs.

"People they know me, and also, it's respectful for the environment and also the cost is a little bit less," said the man forced to resign as cabinet minister.

Bernier says the lack of signage has nothing to do with trying to distance himself from Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party.

"I'm not independent. I'm a Conservative, I'm proud to be a Conservative, and I'm running as a Conservative."

Main opponents are both named Morin

His opponents are going all out.

In Saint Georges Liberal candidate Claude Morin says that the Bernier got the riding because of his father's record, but will fall because of his own acts.

"Without his father he wouldn't be there at all," said Claude.

"He says he's always here, but he's never here."

Meanwhile the Bloc Quebecois candidate, Sylvio Morin, wants to put an end to his party's perennial second-place finish in the riding.

"Enough is enough. Let's get rid of Bernier! And the only alternative to Bernier is the Bloc Quebecois and me!" said Sylvio.

"Every time we hear about the Beauce, it's through the declaration of Maxime Bernier. And he's a joke! He's a national joke!"

The name 'Morin' is plastered on signs throughout the riding because the Liberal and BQ candidates share the same last name.

But neither is worried about voters getting confused when in the ballot booth.

"Our pictures will be there and you'll see probably that there's a bit of difference on the pictures," said Claude.

Meanwhile Sylvio lightheartedly says that size matters.

"My sign is bigger than the other Morin. Well, he has a last name which is very beautiful, but I have a bigger sign," said Sylvio.
