A pair of Canadians from Edmonton has been confirmed dead following the earthquake in Nepal.

The family of Kathy Macmillan (Smith) and Bruce Macmillan announced the sad news on a dedicated Facebook page Saturday afternoon.

"Bruce and Kathy were seen to be hiking in the area that was totally buried in the avalanche at the village of Chyamki in the Langtang valley, surrounded by 7000 metre peaks and one of the most beautiful and serene places in the world. Their trip marked a 35 year anniversary to revisit Nepal, an area visited shortly after they were married. Kathy and Bruce passed away while travelling the world, their passion from the moment they were married."

The family thanked the many people who expressed concern and support, including about 6,000 that joined the Facebook page.
