NEW YORK--The Major League Soccer game between the Columbus Crew and Montreal Impact originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been pushed to Sunday because of poor weather conditions in Quebec.
The game was originally scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday at Montreal's Saputo Stadium, but will now take place at 12 p.m. ET at the same venue on Sunday, the league said in a release Friday night.
Snow began falling in Montreal on Friday, with accumulations of 15-25 centimetres predicted, along with the possibility of rainfall through Saturday afternoon.
"Based on the snow that already has fallen in Montreal, and the forecast for the next 18-24 hours, the weather conditions will hamper efforts to clear the field and the stadium," said Nelson Rodriguez, MLS executive vice-president of competition and game operations. "We believe a high probability exists that the field would be unplayable at the game's originally scheduled time."
Montreal comes in with a record of 4-1-0, good for top spot in the Eastern Conference, while Columbus enters with a 2-1-2 mark.
The Impact played their first two home games of the season indoors at Olympic Stadium. Saturday's game was scheduled to be Montreal's first outdoor game of the year.
