The police bomb squad was called in Wednesday night for a suspicious package at the corner of St. Hubert and Jarry streets in the Villeray area.

Police set up a security perimeter as a precaution measure as soon as they arrived at 8:30 p.m.

Police used a bomb disposal robot to check the mailbox in front of a dollar store, which did not have to be evacuated.

After their search, police determined the call to be a hoax. Constable Dany Richer says the person who made the call may face a charge of public mischief.
