In Outremont, everyone's talking about a smoothly paved road that isn’t quite done.
The city paved a stretch of Bloomfield Ave. near Bernard Ave. but it seems they forgot to remove the Bixi stand, so the contractor just paved around it.
Friday morning, crews were scrambling to remove the bike stand so city workers can come back and finish the job.
“That foreman should have called Bixi and have the racks removed before paving that stretch of Bloomfield Ave. He didn't and that's a mistake. He shouldn't have done that,” said Sylvain Leclerc, borough spokesman.
People who live in the area say it may be a mistake, but given Montreal’s infrastructure woes, it's not all that shocking.
“It's astounding to me that in this day in age we can't do things properly the first time,” said one woman.
The borough's plan is to repave just this little stretch.
It says the fix shouldn't be too noticeable and shouldn't cost much because city blue collar workers will do the job.
Still, city hall says it's embarrassing.
The foreman who made the wrong call will have to explain himself to his superiors.
The roadwork, take two, is expected to be completed Monday.
