MONTREAL - Officials at UQAM closed four buildings Monday morning out of fear that protesting students would use the buildings as a base for demonstrations.

At 8:30 Monday morning the school announced the Hubert-Aquin, Judith-Jasmin, Paul-Gerin-Lajoie and Therese-Casgrain buildings would be closed for the day.

This comes after group of students began spreading word via social media that there will be an event taking place at UQAM Monday called "Nuit de la Creation illimitee"

The administration says it never received a request to use the University's facilities for this event.

The school says several administrative offices and libraries would also be closed while other buildings at the university would remain open as usual.

The shutdown comes as students protest at Ahuntsic College in Montreal, and at the Education building at the University of Laval in Quebec City.

Many University and CEGEP students across Quebec object to the provincial government's plan to raise university tuition by $325 per year over the next five years, bringing the average tuition in Quebec more in line with the national average
