Former mayor Gerald Tremblay and his former right-hand man Frank Zampino will testify as witnesses at the Charbonneau Commission, reports say.

A spokesperson for the commission refused to say if they will appear at the inquiry into corruption in Quebec’s construction industry this week, but Radio-Canada has reported the pair will testify at some point..

Tremblay resigned as mayor in November amid allegations of corruption involving his Union Montreal party.

Tremblay has repeatedly denied any knowledge of a system of collusion involving the city and a number of construction companies.

Meantime, testimony this week has placed Zampino, the former chairman of the city's executive committee, allegedly as the one really in charge of the city.

Zampino currently faces charges of fraud and conspiracy in connection with a controversial real-estate project.
