Although the Guzzo Group is currently in turmoil, it is reassuring its employees and customers about the year ahead.

In a news release issued on Monday, the Guzzo Group says it is committed to “protecting nearly 500 jobs and preserving the livelihoods of our employees, who are the heart of Cinémas Guzzo.”

A few days ago, the daily La Presse reported a Superior Court decision placing the company in liquidation and calling for the sale of its assets to repay creditors.

The Guzzo Group, however, retains control of operations in its screening rooms.

“The past few months have been marked by heightened challenges for our organization, amplified by significant media attention. Despite this, we are determined to focus our efforts on concrete solutions,” the Guzzo Group said. “We are actively working on a restructuring and recovery plan to adapt to the growing challenges of our industry.”

The group reports that its theatres remain “fully operational,” with the exception of the Des Sources branch in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, which has been permanently closed since early December.

“Our goal remains clear: to rebuild on a solid foundation and continue to offer an exceptional entertainment experience to our community,” added Guzzo. “We remain determined to pursue our mission with resilience and innovation, and to serve our customers with excellence.”

This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Dec. 23, 2024.
