Two teenagers led police in a car chase for half an hour before they crashed the stolen vehicle on Highway 13 in Montreal.

The driver was a 19-year-old man known to Sainte-Therese police. Along with a 17-year-old girl, police said they stole a sport utility vehicle Sunday around midnight in Mirabel, where police tried to stop them.

Police chased the stolen SUV onto the highway and they had to call for assistance from police in Blainville, Montreal, and the Quebec provincial police.

It ended when the driver lost control and skidded off highway 13, near exit 6, just south of highway 40 in Montreal.

The 17-year-old passenger was transported to hospital for her minor injuries. The driver was sent to hospital too for preventive measures.

Constable Martin Charron said the young man is being detained and will appear in court Monday, and the girl will appear in youth court.
