MONTREAL - As the province's lawmakers met during a rare nighttime session in the National Assembly, thousands of students took to the streets throughout Quebec to protest the Charest government's emergency legislation to end the student conflict.
For the 24th consecutive night, over 4,000 marched through Montreal's downtown. At one point, the protesters blocked part of the 720 Highway, swarming through traffic in the Viger tunnel. Another demonstration was set to start at midnight.
On Wednesday evening, 122 protesters were arrested in downtown Montreal after projectiles were thrown at riot police.
With a protest being held in front of the National Assembly in Quebec City, threatened by a fake bomb scare earlier in the evening, spontaneous protests broke out in every major city in the province.
Thousands of students and their supporters also took to the streets of Sherbrooke, Gatineau and downtown Trois-Rivieres.
