The Vanier College Teachers Association became the latest educators union to vote for a strike on Saturday night.
Of the 550 members of the VCTA, 218 voted for a strike and only 23 voted against.
“That’s pretty good for a strike vote,” said VCTA President Eric Durling of the turnout. “What you have to understand is that when it comes time to picket, I think we can put a larger turnout than that.”
No date for a strike has been set. Durling said any decision will be made by the Common Front of public sector workers will make that decision at a meeting on Sept. 30.
“What’s at stake here is really the quality of education we can offer our students,” said Durling. “If they can cut financing as much as they want in the system, we can’t offer students the kind of education we can now.”
Vanier's union joines those at John Abbott College and at the English Montreal Lester B. Pearson and Wilfrid Laurier school boards.
