A Montreal woman says she is lucky to be alive after a steel rod shot through her windshield as she was driving on the Decarie Expressway Tuesday afternoon.
"It hit my hood of the car, it bounced off of that and pierced right through my windshield. It landed in the passenger seat, bounced off on my side missing me," said Christine Nadon.
Nadon said she was driving in the left lane heading southbound close to Jean-Talon St, when she noticed the car in front of her drive over something black and long.
"There's a white car in front of me, a good distance away. I know it didn't come from that truck or that car. It just basically got kicked up behind his tires," she said.
Seconds later, a steel rod flew through the windshield, hit the passenger seat and bounced off the inside of the driver door.
She says she was in shock and pulled over until she gathered her wits and continued home.
The steel rod is about 60 centimetres long, and weights roughly one kilogram.
Nadon said she was thankful no one else was in the car with her at the time.
It's unclear where the piece of metal came from, whether it fell from an overpass or off of a truck.
She plans on filing an accident report with the Surete du Quebec.
Anyone who spots a dangerous object on the highway should call 511, said Transports Quebec.
