A Sikh teen from Quebec has been acquitted of assault with a ceremonial dagger but has been found guilty of assault using a hairpin.

The 13-year-old was also acquitted of a third charge that involved a hairpin.

Quebec youth court Judge Gilles Ouellet says in his ruling there was enough reasonable doubt to accquit the teen on two of the three charges.

The hairpin is used to tuck loose strands in a turban.

The spat was alleged to have taken place off school grounds last Sept. 11 and stemmed from a tale of jealousy over the friendship of a mutual schoolyard chum.

The soft-spoken, rail-thin teen denied in open court he had ever committed the assaults.
