Things are not quite back to normal at the Cote St. Luc building where an elderly woman was attacked this week.
Police have made no arrests yet, and some residents still refuse to use the parking garage.
“For now, until everything has calmed down, I think I will park outside,” said one woman.
On Tuesday, 74-year-old Faigie Adelman was beaten with a baseball bat in what police say they believe is a robbery gone wrong.
Surveillance video shows her driving into the garage, and a man with a bat runs in behind her. As Adelman gets out of her car, she's beaten and her purse stolen.
She was in critical condition in hospital but police now say doctors no longer fear for her life.
The story has shocked people who live in Cote St. Luc. The city has one of the lowest crime rates on the island.
Police say they're looking into all possible scenarios as to why she was attacked.
For his part, Cote St. Luc's Mayor Anthony Housefather is trying to reassure citizens.
“We do have a low crime rate. You should not be afraid but take every precaution and when you're going into your garage, make very sure no one is following you and wait for the garage door to go down before moving forward,” he said.
The building where the attack happened has already increased security, but people who live there say they'll feel a lot more comfortable once the attacker is in police custody and Adelman is out of the hospital.
