MONTREAL - The union of communication workers at Radio-Canada, the French-language arm of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, is unhappy with a decision to rebrand the network Ici.
The union said Thursday that the rebranding, which will cost about $400,000, is “unwelcome and inappropriate.”
The union notes that the change occurs while the corporation is facing budget cuts that could result in layoffs.
The union is asking for the plan to be scrapped.
Radio-Canada director of communications Guylaine Bergeron said that the name Radio-Canada will still be used, but qualified it by stating that Ici will be used as a “common denominator for the TV, web and radio components of the network.
