Two polls conducted since the announcement of the merger between the Future Coalition of Quebec (CAQ) and the ADQ give Francois Legault's party a significant lead.

A CROP poll for La Presse gave 39 percent to the CAQ, 28 for the Liberals and 18 percent to the Parti Quebecois.

A Leger Marketing poll for Le Devoir gives the CAQ 37 percent versus 24 for the PQ and 22 for the Liberals.

The Quebec Solidaire attracted less than 10 percent in both polls.

Strong support among francophones led the pollsters to predict that the CAQ's support would translate to a majority government for the party, which could win 100 of the 125 seats on the National Assembly.

The CROP poll was conducted between 12 and 14 December among 1,000 people on the internet. The margin of error does not apply.

The Leger Marketing poll was conducted 13 and 14 December and 1,002 people were surveyed. Its margin of error was 3.1 percent 19 times out of 20.
