The field to take over as Montreal police chief has been narrowed from five to two.

Assistant chief Jean-Guy Gagnon and Marc Parent, director of the northern part of the city, were interviewed by a panel at city hall Monday, CTV News has learned from sources.

The panel's recommendation is expected to be made public at city council next Monday, where it will be put to a vote.

Former police chief Yvan Delorme resigned in May and allegations of collusion.

Delorme testified in June before a city hall committee about his connections to BCIA and other security firms in the city, and whether he took any role in awarding contracts.

Delorme, 47, denied any nefarious ties, and said he chose to retire after working hard his whole life, despite recently being offered a generous pension bonus in exchange for a three-year contract extension.
