MONTREAL - Montreal police used a taser to subdue a woman who was running through a neighbourhood armed with a long knife.

Several people in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough called 9-1-1 around 2 a.m. Thursday when they saw the woman who was in evident distress.

Some individuals followed her from a distance and watched her enter a building on Lafontaine street.

Police officers arriving on the scene attempted to talk to her and convince her to drop the knife, but she refused, leading police to use the stun gun.

After being disarmed she was taken to hospital where she is reported as being in good physical condition.

Police shoot man in Laurentians

North of Montreal in the Laurentian community of Rawdon, two Surete du Quebec officers shot and injured a man who was having an argument with a bailiff.

Police say the man was extremely aggressive and was assaulting the bailiff when they arrived on the scene.

He continued to be combative and apparently tried to attack the officers, who shot him.

The man was hit in the lower body and taken to hospital, but his life is not in danger.

The SQ officers were taken to hospital and treated for nervous shock.

Quebec City's police force will now investigate the incident.
