The head of the Montreal police union didn't waste any time throwing down the gauntlet to newly-re-elected mayor Gerald Tremblay.
Yves Francoeur is demanding the Tremblay administration stick to a pledge not to lay off police officers.
The city has to make a decision about the future of 130 temporary officers - they'll either be laid off or be granted permanency.
Francoeur says about 60 positions are not currently filled, which he says is causing staffing shortages.
Montreal has about 4,600 police officers.
