MONTREAL—Gregory Kouri, 51, an early investor in PayPal, died in New York City on Saturday from a heart attack.

Montreal-born Kouri had lived in Miami, Florida for over a decade prior to his death. An “angel investor” who poured money into a number of tech start-ups, the Lebanese-Canadian was well known in Silicon Valley.

Having lived with PayPal founder Elon Musk after first moving to the United States, Kouri invested in several of Musk’s ventures, including Tesla Motors and SpaceX.

Despite living in the U.S. for years, Kouri never lost his love of hockey and taught his daughter how to skate in Central Park’s rink.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Georges Antiochian Orthodox Church, 555 Jean Talon Blvd.
