The Montreal Alouettes have re-signed a trio of players, preventing them from entering free agency.

Import wide receiver Kerry Watkins and non-import fullback Kerry Carter both re-signed for two years plus an option, while import defensive end Jermaine McElveen also re-signed for a year plus an option.

"It's great that Kerry (Watkins) has decided to continue his career with us; he was the final piece of our starting 12 to lock in for 2010. We are happy that he wants to continue to be a part of our winning organization," said Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp.

"As for Jermaine, we're very happy with his steady progress since he first joined us and we know his best years are yet to come. Kerry (Carter) is also a great signing - he has battled through some tough injuries, but we know his best years are ahead of him."

Watkins may not make it to the open market, as there are reports claiming he will re-sign with the Montreal Alouettes.

Watkins, a two-time CFL all-star, has put together five straight 1,000 yard seasons, while adding 37 touchdowns during that same period. He will be entering his seventh season as an Alouette in 2010, and is coming off a 1,243-yard campaign, with 81 receptions and eight touchdowns.

Carter will play his fourth season at fullback with the Alouettes, having recorded over 300 yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns in 2009. He also registered six special teams tackles. He has also played with the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins.

McElveen has played 25 career games with the Alouettes. He recorded 26 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, three sacks and one tackle for a loss in 2009. He played with the Tennessee Titans before joining the Alouettes in 2007.
