A 26-year-old man has died after a stabbing in the Plateau around closing time early Wednesday morning.

The man died shortly after he was taken to hospital.

The victim was with two other young people at bars on St. Laurent Blvd. The altercation occurred at the corner of Prince Arthur St. around 3:15 a.m., but then moved to the corner of Pine Ave. and Clark St.

The two other man, also in their 20s, were injured after an argument broke out with another group. Their injuries are less severe: a 25-year-old man had to be hospitalized for leg injuries, and a third person suffered relatively minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Montreal police arrested two people in their 20s in connection with this case.

“Two suspects were arrested shortly after the event by police officers. They were taken in to custody, so they’ll be interrogated by major crime squad investigators,” said Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux.

“There is information about a third person that investigators might be looking for, but it’s still too early to confirm this information,” said Lemieux.

Police put up a security perimeter around Pine Ave. and Clark St. while they investigated.

“Major Crime Squad investigators have a lot of work to do, have a lot of witnesses to meet with, also try to understand how everything happened,” said Lemieux. “Why did they start fighting? Do the victims and two men know each other? There are a lot of unanswered questions at this time.”
