As Montreal’s public engineers enter the second day of their strike, six major worksites have been shut down across the city.

Protests also were held at a number of work sites, including the Bonaventure Expressway and Victoria Square.

One engineer said Montrealers should get used to more delays.

“It’s going to mean delays, it’s going to mean inconveniences, in terms of road detours,” said Joe Lerario. “All this has to go through permits and most times, it’s the engineers that handle the infrastructure designs, detours and this sort of thing, and that has to be approved.”

The 440 engineers have been without a contract for five years.

They say they are paid less than engineers in the private sector and in other Quebec cities.
