MONTREAL—An eighteen-month-old Laval girl was declared dead on Sunday afternoon after she drowned in a residential pool on des Oiseaux Blvd. in the Sainte-Rose sector of Laval.

Laval police and Urgences-Sante were called to the girl's home at 2:45 p.m. after the girl was found at the bottom of her family’s swimming pool. First responders could find no sign of life. She has been transported to a local hospital where doctors declared that she was dead soon after arrival.

So far this summer, 41 people have drowned in Quebec—one of the most dangerous seasons in the province’s pools and waterways. In September, schools across the province will start providing swimming lessons as a reaction to the dangerous season.
